Six years. 24,000 kilometres of land and water trails.

Dianne Whelan. The award-winning director and cinematographer set off on foot, alone, disillusioned with the state of the world and worried about climate change. She hoped to find different ways of caring, both for the land and for each other.

Dianne traversed the entirety of Canada starting July 1, 2015 in St. John's, NL, and ending August 1, 2021 in Victoria, BC. The Trans-Canada Trail, which was conceived following Canada's 125th confederation celebration and built to its full 24,000+ kilometre extent for the 150th confederation celebration, is presented with the words "Strong, Proud, and Free".

500 DAYS IN THE WILD is a feature documentary that weaves intimate moments of reflection with adventure and the stories of the people and communities Dianne encountered along the way.
